About Us
The Church in Western culture finds itself at a crossroad.
For hundreds of years, the Church has been a driving force in the life and culture of the West. But today, we are almost on the fringe. We have less influence than ever before. The Church is shrinking numerically as fewer and fewer people in each generation call themselves Christian.
Why is this? We believe it is because we have strayed from the way of Christ and His apostles. We are more a product of our culture and traditions than of what the New Testament tells us the Church of Christ should be.
Interestingly, the best way to confirm this is to look where Christianity is thriving. In China. In India. In Africa. Most Christians there do not feel compelled to adopt our Western traditions. They cannot build expensive seminaries and Bible colleges. They don’t understand why we put so much emphasis on pursuits that don’t resemble what Christ and His apostles emphasized. They don’t understand why we put so much money into projects that are foreign to the New Testament. So Third World Christianity is teaching us a great deal about how to walk in the way of Christ and His apostles. In many ways they are reintroducing us to the simple, yet powerful Christianity described in the New Testament.
So, Community Bible Church is on a mission.
We are determined to return to the way of Christ and His apostles. We believe the Church in America must return to this way or face the kind of extinction the Church in Europe has experienced over the past 100 years. We believe this way is described in fairly simple terms in the teaching handed down by the apostles–also known as the New Testament.
In the book of Acts, we see how the early church understood the Great Commission. They shared the good news of Jesus Christ, they established churches (making sure everyone was rooted in the teaching of Christ and the apostles), then they entrusted the faith to new leaders who would carry on the mission to the next generation.
In the epistles we read what the apostles taught the first Christians. When these truths were taught and lived out, churches became families–healthy families that were a blessing to all who came into contact with them. We believe the Scriptures describe a healthy (sound, strong) church as a church that prays without ceasing and worships from sincere hearts in spirit and truth. We believe a healthy church studies the Bible carefully with the goal of obeying every word. We believe a healthy church encourages spiritual growth. We believe a healthy church will have strong community and every member will be actively involved in the ministry. We believe a healthy church is a generous one that understands and practices stewardship. And we believe a healthy church not only knows the gospel of salvation by faith alone in the grace of God alone, but is also reaching out with this good news to her neighbors both down the street and around with the world–looking for innovative ways to communicate our timeless message to the people of our time.
We invite you to join with us in this mission.
