Discovering God’s Will
By Shaun LePage • Jun 18th, 2008 • Category: Read This! One of the most common questions Christians ask is, “How can I know God’s will for my life?” Think about it: God is all-knowing. God is all-good. God designed us. God has perfect knowledge about what is best. Don’t you want to know what He wants? Don’t you want to know His will?
But how can we know? Does He reveal His will to us in our dreams? Through impressions? Does He still speak to people in audible voices?
This series of messages by Pastor Shaun LePage is designed to answer these questions. More than that! We believe the answers will lead you to the joy and peace and freedom God intended you to have.
- Part 1: Discovering God’s Will: Presuppositions. Can we know God’s will? Can we understand why God’s will includes sin, evil, disasters and “accidents”? Theologian J. I. Packer has written, “Belief that divine guidance is real rests upon two foundation-facts: first, the reality of God’s plan for us; second, the ability of God to communicate with us. On both these facts the Bible has much to say.”
- Part 2: Discovering God’s Will: Prerequisites. What must we understand and do before we can discover God’s will? Can we expect to discover God’s will regardless of how we’re living our lives? Regardless of our level of commitment to Christ?
- Part 3: Discovering God’s Will: Preconceived Notions, Part 1. Ever had the impression God was speaking to you? Do you know someone who claims God has spoken to him or her in an audible voice? It’s popular for Christians to claim God spoke to them or guided them in a very specific way. Is this how God communicates to us?
- Part 4: Discovering God’s Will: Preconceived Notions, Part 2. Ever been frustrated by trying to discover the “center of God’s will”? Ever wonder if you’re missing God’s “Plan A” for your life? Feel like you’re getting Plan B or C or Q? Is this really what God intended?
- Part 5: Discovering God’s Will: Practicing Wisdom, Part 1. Life with God is like a hike. We don’t always know where He’s going to lead us, but if we trust Him, we can be sure He will guide us where we need to be. Walking with Him is a great adventure!
- Part 6: Discovering God’s Will: Practicing Wisdom, Part 2. The self-help industry is huge. People spend billions of dollars looking for answers to the questions and problems they’re dealing with. Can you guess what is the greatest self-help book ever?
- Part 7: Discovering God’s Will: Practicing Wisdom, Part 3a. You’re faced with a decision. You search the Bible and find that there is no chapter and verse that tells you what to do. How do you decide?
- Part 8: Discovering God’s Will: Practicing Wisdom, Part 3b. Imagine this: God appears to you. He speaks. He says, “Ask whatever you wish and I will give it.” What would you ask for? Would you ask for something more valuable than gold? Do you know of something more valuable than gold?
- Part 9: Discovering God’s Will: Practicing Wisdom, Part 4. Walking in wisdom requires that we trust in a sovereign God. But what does sovereignty mean? What are the implications and how does it affect our lives?
